Are you looking for a quick, mess-friendly craft that kids (and grown-ups!) will love this holiday season? Look no further than this simple and striking snowman activity from Miss Sheila of Menifee Handmade. Grab your crayons, paper, and a little tape, and you’ve got a festive piece of art in no time.
What you’ll need:
- A larger sheet of white construction or cardstock paper
- A smaller snowman-shaped cut-out
- Painter’s tape
- Kwik Stix paint sticks or other coloring items
- Optional: scissors, additional decorations (glitter, stickers, etc.)
Steps:
1. Use painter’s tape to attach the snowman cut-out to the center of the larger sheet. This will mask the snowman shape while you paint around it.
2. Using the Kwik Stix, paint all around the cut-out snowman. Cover the white area of the larger sheet with color — vibrant, festive, whatever your mood!
3. Once your painted area is done and dry (Kwik Stix dry quickly — bonus!), gently remove the cut-out snowman. The white snowman shape will remain — a wonderful contrast surrounded by color!
Why this works:
- The painter’s tape technique gives a crisp, clean outline of the snowman — no messy edges.
- Kwik Stix are ideal for holiday crafts: less fuss than traditional paint, minimal clean-up, and vivid color.
- The reveal moment (peeling off the cut-out) adds a bit of “wow” for kids — they’ll love seeing the snowman emerge.
- It’s perfect for a craft table at a holiday event, classroom, or a cozy afternoon at home.
Bonus offer:
Miss Sheila is offering a special discount code for the Kwik Stix materials: use MENIFEE15 for 15% off! Head to https://thekwikstix.com/ to shop!
Tips & variations:
- Try different backgrounds: maybe a sunset sky (blend orange/red/blue), a winter-forest vibe (greens/blues), or even metallics for a “night before Christmas” look.
- Use glitter glue or stickers to decorate the snowman after you remove the cut-out: add eyes, a carrot nose, a scarf, buttons — the fun is in the personalization.
- Frame the finished art or mount it on colored cardstock for a holiday card or gift.
- If you have younger children, consider using a larger cut-out or simpler shapes so the reveal is quicker and more accessible.
